Johnny’s Journey
Before arriving at The Healing Place, Johnny Dyson was struggling to survive. He couldn’t keep a steady job and was living out of a broken-down car. Every day felt like a fight just to make it through. In that moment of despair, Johnny prayed—asking for a sign and for direction.
Shortly after, he connected with someone in Narcotics Anonymous who encouraged him to seek treatment. That conversation led him to The Healing Place of New Hanover County. When Johnny walked through our doors, he arrived with nothing but willingness.
He committed fully to the program, showing up for himself and others. Johnny completed Phase I, Phase II, and the office commitment, fully embracing the structure and peer support at the heart of our program. He recently shared, “After I came here, things just started working out for me.”
Today, Johnny is one of our most involved alumni. He sponsors men in the program, stays active in the Silver Chip alumni group, and returns often to support community meetings—showing others what recovery can look like.
Johnny doesn’t just stay sober—he gives his recovery away. As a gesture of gratitude, he’s even brought his hotdog stand to our Fall Festival to feed clients and celebrate the community that helped him rebuild his life.
He is a shining example of willingness, accountability, and recovery in action, and we are proud to call him part of our THPNC family.
